The kids belonging to the Salaam Baalak Trust have once again made their point that if given a chance they too can do wonders.
The Salaam Balak Trust, a non-government organization (NGO) came into existence in the year 1988 as a result of the efforts of the noted film maker Mira Nair. The organization has about 5000 street kids under its wings. It also provides them the much needed opportunity of education and other facilities which would help them to prove their worth in society.

The hotel chain ‘Nirula’s’ decided to provide them an opportunity and extended an invitation to the Salaam Baalak Trust to provide a makeover to the exteriors of its restaurant at Defence Colony. Nirula’s had a few years back too provided the juniors of the trust with a huge canvas ( the walls of its restaurant) to express their creativity and ideas. The theme then chosen by the children was ‘environment’.
This time the children went ahead choosing the theme ‘Rights of the child’. The highly spirited and talented team included kids in the age group of 5- 15 who let their creative juices flow. The finished mural spoke volumes of their creativity.
Nirula’s has kept up its drive to make their bit of difference to the society. This is evident from their projects ‘Save the Yamuna’, ‘Save water’ and ‘Do not use Plastic Bags’. They have also been active contributors for causes taken up by “Helpage India’, The Spastic Society of India and the like. The world would definitely be a better place if many more such institutions come forward to provide a platform for the underprivileged to prove themselves.
